Oracle Expands Commitment to Internet Developer Community With Expanded Access To Free Software, Launch of Online Magazine, and Expanded Newsgroup Support

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Oracle Corporation (Nasdaq: ORCL) today announced expanded global services, software and information resources for members of Oracle(R) Technology Network (OTN), Oracle's online resource for Internet developers. Oracle also announced the launch of Internet Developer (iD), an online publication designed to further assist Internet developers in creating and deploying applications based on Oracle's Internet platform.

In addition to free software downloads for members of OTN, developers can now choose to have product CDs and documentation shipped to them anywhere in the world for only $200. This fee includes special OTN developer licenses and upgrades for a period of one year.

"The Internet has changed everything for developers," said Jeremy Burton, vice president of server marketing at Oracle. "The extraordinary response to OTN over the last six months further highlights the move away from Windows based client/server applications to Internet applications."

Q&A with Linus Torvalds Headlines First Issue of Internet Developer Magazine Oracle further expanded its commitment to developers with the launch this month of a new online publication from Oracle Publishing, Internet Developer(iD). iD is the third publication of Oracle Publishing, which also produces Oracle magazine and Profit(TM) magazine. In addition to showcasing content from OTN, such as code samples, white papers, downloads, and newsgroups, iD provides technical articles, step-by-step tutorials, case studies, and profiles of and interviews with Internet developers.
The first issue of iD, available online now at oracle.com, includes technical articles about building enterprise-class web-enabled multimedia solutions using Java; email enabling your Developer Server applications; securing your web server for e-commerce; and a Q&A with Linus Torvalds, creator of the Linux operating system.

OTN Expands Content of Deja News, Inc.

Through an agreement with Deja News, Oracle Technology Network is providing free newsgroup based support to developers. Oracle Technology Network newsgroups are currently available for all software offered on Early Access Programs (EAPs) and are staffed by Oracle development groups. This service allows Internet developers to talk back to the people who built the software.

Deja News, the discussion network, is the Web's leading destination for discussion. Founded in May 1995, Deja News provides an easy and powerful Web interface for participating in discussions with people of like interests and for searching and reading discussion forums, including Usenet newsgroups.
Deja News serves as the discussion forum resource for companies such as America Online, AT&T WorldNet Service, Excite, HotBot, Infoseek, InfoSpace, Lycos, WebCrawler, Yahoo! and ZDNet.
Deja News is free to users and may be found on the web at dejanews.com.
