Agreed. Except that MS used illegal practices, and, cared less than any of those companies about the quality of their products. They're more obsessed with control at the expense of their products' quality.

I challenge Microsoft to do something similar to Sun's approach
to feedback from companies/communities towards SUN's java.

Gates et al are interested in products that make money. Same as Sun, Apple, Oracle, IBM and every other company.

The difference is Apple, Sun and Oracle don't use criminal methods to make that money. (IBM did, but was put under significant constraints by the DoJ)

Furthermore, Apple, Sun, IBM and Oracle are all putting out innovative products, as opposed to Microsoft which is killing innovation.

Because, of course, innovation by competitors undermines Window's Monopoly.
