Steve Gibson's site has a program you can download to diagnose your drive. grc.com

Thanks Allen and Tom. However, since my drive is an IDE ZIP drive, the TIP program on that site will not work with it.

OT: Buyout Rumor to End all Buyout Rumors

Get this-- Disney to buy Pixar AND APPLE!

appleinsider.com

The article contains enough wacky details to actually be true. If so, this would be a merger that would rock the entire computer industry! The gist of it is Steve Job's close relationship with Disney is leading to a merger with Jobs becoming possible CEO of Disney!

allen,

have you run the "tip" program on your drive?

i downloaded it, and am about to run it on my jaz. thought i'd check to see if anyone here has any hands-on with it?

for some reason i'm a bit hesitant to run it.

but i do have 2 full-system backups on hand at all times.

thanks,

mark

ah, the heck with waiting. i'm running it. about 8+ minutes into a 1gb disk scan, looking at 55 minutes remaining. geez. the test has 3 levels of errors...... soft, firm and hard. so far all sectors okay. i actually anticipate this test turning up some errors. i got that impression from gibson's notes preceding the test. he made it sound like it's ultra-sensitive. he even said that running this prog is good for the disk and the stored data. made me think of defragging and optimizing.

sorry if you've all already been through this info repeatedly. don't mean to ramble. but i would like to hear from anyone who has used "tip".

(21% complete a no errors) <g3>
