I usually go to the back of the store, to the warehouse room, and check out how big the piles are, back there. That usually gives better indication than what the salesmen say, or what I see in the showroom. Companies pay (or give incentives) for amount of showroom shelf space allocated for their products. I usually linger around, checking other toys, while keeping one eye on the traffic and number of people stopping by to look at particular product(s) and competitors' products. That give me good indication of interest and choice.
