Tired Of Internet Stock Volatility? Try Video Poker Says Gambling Expert

DANIA, Fla., Feb 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Investors should consider playing video poker as an alternative to Internet stocks and other volatile investments says a gambling expert.

Many Las Vegas casinos offer video poker machines which can return more than 100 percent, according to Steve Bourie, a former executive in the gambling industry and author of American Casino Guide - 1999 edition ($14.95 at bookstores, participating AAA offices, or call 1-800-741-1596).

"With some of the wild swings on Internet stocks the volatility in playing video poker is mild in comparison," says Bourie whose 460-page annual guide to casino gambling in America has an extensive section on how slots and video poker machines work.

Just as investors need to choose the right stocks for their portfolio Bourie says players need to choose the right machines in order to get the best returns.

"Not all video poker games are worth playing," he says. "One of the best to look for is called 'full pay deuces wild' which returns 100.76 percent. Another good one is '10/7 double bonus' which has a payback of 100.17 percent. Most casinos also offer cash back through their slot clubs which raises the return even higher on these machines."

Bourie includes charts in his book on how to spot the best video poker machines, plus strategy charts for making the proper plays. He's written about casino gambling in Fortune and he cautions against trying to make money on slot machines.

"Winning on slots is pure luck, while video poker is a game of skill," he says. "You'll never find a slot machine that's set to return more than 100 percent and in the long run you can't beat them. Video poker, however, is a beatable game and there are professional players."

"I know one player who makes $80,000 a year on 25-cent machines," says Bourie. "Not everyone can play at that level but by playing the maximum coins and using the proper strategies on the best machines players should average at least a one percent return on their playing bankroll every day."

The 1999 edition of American Casino Guide is $14.95 at bookstores, participating AAA offices, Amazon.com, or calling 1-800-741-1596.
