Hayes Corp auction of 14 assets raises $11.1 mln WILMINGTON, Del., Feb 19(Reuters) - A portion of the assets of Hayes Corp. (Nasdaq:HAYZ - news) were sold in a court auction Friday for about $11.1 million. Hayes attorney David Fournier told Reuters that presiding Judge Mary F. Walrath is expected to sign orders later approving the sale of 14 packages that took more than a five-hour hearing in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware to complete. Hayes, which designed, manufactured, and supported computer communications products, filed for Chapter 11 protection in October with five subsidiaries and ended operations in January. The company pioneered the personal computer (PC) telephone modem and dominated the market in the 1980's. Hayes said it was unable to reorganize because of lenders' restrictions and their unwillingness to fund operations. All employees were terminated January 4 except for 40 who were retained to protect assets. Eventually all assets will be sold including the inventory of finished goods, work in process and components, trademarks and trade names, and other intellectual property, court papers say. Company offices will be consolidated at Hayes' Gaithersburg, Md., site. The list of successful bidders at Friday's auction, their acquisitions, and their winning bid includes: former Hayes CEO Ron Howard, Century RAS products for $510,000; Modem Express, DEV TEST and warranty and repair inventory for $250,000, a warranty list for $50,000, and the domain names hayes.com and practical.com for $75,000; and The Computer Exchange, Legacy products for $310,000. Also Xircom Inc, EZjack, for $4 million and an FCC test lab for $75,000; Compaq Computer Corp, Century RAS inventory for $505,000; and Discovision Assoc., three ADSL patents for $75,000. Prepetition secured lenders, NationsCredit as agent for itself and Foothill Capital, and Sun Rock Capital Corp, have a $20 million claim.
