I would be foolish to say that no thought of the indices come into play, but I try to focus on the stocks I am in or will enter rather than market. You do want to be in the major trend, it is easier. I like Dahl to measure intermediate market. But for cocktail party type banner, I apply a slew of gann and fib lines with ewave and gann squares etc to predict where market will go and when it will turn. My predictions are fair to middling, I try not to listen to others.

Put Dahl's primary trend on indices and see if it satisfies you.

O'neil show the logic of trading strong stock with demand, selling fast and the new america type stocks. It is not the bible, but every beginner or "investor" should read and have most of it sink in. The strong get stronger, the weak get weaker.
