Carl,
E-machines uses whatever they can get a deal on.
They have used Cyrix M-II-266s-300s and now 333s and Celeron 300s w/o cache.
They are also currently using AMD K-6-300s, 333s and Celeron 333As.
My guess is that they are paying under $50 for a chip and less than that for a mobo and RAM. $10-$15 for the modem. $15-20 for the case.
They use small, closeout HDs. 2-3 gig. Probably less than $50.
The complete product is probably in the $210-250 range depending on the chip.
They use 66 MHz bus and therefore a stick of cheap RAM. Usually 32 Meg. Their mobos incorporate ATI Rage graphics and a crystal sound card.
The Modem is separate, 56k, winmodem.
They come with one ISA and two PCI slots open.

They ARE already a force. Their computers retail in the $400-550 range w/o monitor and the KDS company offers a real cheap monitor to go with it.
Wherever you go they are sold out and on back order...
At least one of their models maybe more are in the top ten best selling computers.

No Apples yet.

Jim

PS...So much for the Sub-1000 market that Intel said wouldn't exist.

Carl - Re: "E MAchines & I wonder if they also use Apple, Cyrix and AMD chips."

They used Cyrix and Intel CPUs and may now be adding AMD chips as well.
