It boils down to this: there are standard deviations from the norms of all human behavior. Homosexuality is in line with this standard deviation, as are a panoply of other human behaviors which aren't afforded the minority status homosexuals have been granted.

Humans "pick" on other humans who don't conform to the perceived norm. Gays don't have an exclusive franchise in this arena. When I think back on my school years, I seem to remember fat kids (I was a chubby myself), skinny kids, kids with wacky hair, nerdy kids, stuttering kids, port stained kids, physically deformed kids, mentally deficient kids, ugly kids . . . and gay kids all experiencing abuse at the hands of "normal" kids with the same frequency. But it didn't stop there--even among "normal" kids there were standard deviations, and those kids were picked on too: kids who wore "buddys" (cheap tennis shoes) kids who wore "high waters" (too short pants). . . . remember how friggin petty children are/were? All of these kids were subject to physical and verbal abuse for the most ludicrous reasons, but here's the distinction: we don't create special laws or incorporate these deviations into school curriculums in an effort to "normalize" them.

I am concerned about the splintering of America into a bundle of minorities in which each group is legally recognized and afforded specific treatment based on their individual peculiarities--especially when that peculiarity is defined by what they do in the privacy of their bedrooms.

Is this bigoted?

The term "cultural war" was invented by right-wing Republicans. Pat Buchanan seems to like it a lot...
