Nancy, the great thing about being a Baptist is the individual can leave at any time by moving his/her letter to another church. A person can be voted out by the congregation but we are responsible to God, not some pastor. Being on the church roll doesn't save anyone. Being baptized doesn't save either. As the Bible states it, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." (2 Cor 5:17 NKJV)
"For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but a new creation." (Gal 6:15 NKJV)

"But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared," (Titus 3:4 NIV)
"he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit," (Titus 3:5 NIV)
"whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior," (Titus 3:6 NIV)
"so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life." (Titus 3:7 NIV)

BTW, IMO, those who follow types like Jim Jones don't pray over their Bible and read it asking for God's guidance. A child of The King would never fall prey to false prophets if He walks with the Lord and asks for enlightenment. He/she would not follow a false prophet. Check this out,
"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God." (Rom 8:14 NKJV)
"For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father."" (Rom 8:15 NKJV)

In Christ, God bless,

David
