Yes, I do give CSCO credit. I would like to hear your views, in more specific terms if you don't mind (I've seen enough generalizations on this to choke a horse), as to why it's especially risky for them at this time:

>Very daring, methinks tough sledding in the near term...

Thus far, the only top tier guy who has the inhouse intellectual material to do it all is NT, IMO. That's not to suggest that they will necessarily come out on top, although they're not doing too badly with their unified platforms from what I can see... only, it's that they already have the complimentary skills on staff to understand the entire picture in both carrier and enterprse terms. LU will be top-heavy on the carrier and other SP side for some time to come, even with the acquisitions they've made, IMO.

LU faces similar risks as CSCO here, and for that reason I view the risk that CSCO is taking as being offset somewhat by the potential peril that their principal rival will face, as well.

I'm interested in any additional views you may have on these matters.

Regards, Frank Coluccio

Mr.Fun, We've started a new thread titled Gorilla and King Portfolio candidates based on Geoffrey Moore's principals. Some of the threadmembers are looking for expert comment about inevitable csco/lu-asnd face off. I couldn't think of a better person to present an overview than you. Would you mind making a cameo appearance and responding to Message 7942085.
