Riechers, Normaly stocks and Major indexes like the NASDAQ will retrace a third to two third of their advance. To get an idea of how much NASDAQ will retrace then you have to measure the advance. The advance started on 10/08/98(I was wrong about 01/07/98 but close enough) at 1419 to 02/01/98 at 2510. This is an advance of 1091. The correction would be a third to two third of 1091. That would be 363 to 726. These are called Fibanocci Retracement and are used by professional to estimate the correction. Nothing really special about the date 10/08/98.
