Dell Looks at Selling Computers for Less Than $1,000, WSJ Says

Round Rock, Texas, Feb. 18 (Bloomberg) -- Dell Computer Corp. is considering offering computers priced at $1,000 or less, a strategy that some analysts say trades profits for sales, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing an unidentified spokesman. Dell said the company has been closing in on the market, whose share of all personal-computer sales reached 13.2 percent in the last quarter. Company Chief Executive Michael S. Dell said Dell has been ''increasingly participating'' in this segment of the market, the paper said.
