Baltimore, Feb. 17 (Bloomberg) -- The following comment is from Lisa Rapuano, a portfolio manger for Legg Mason Inc. in Baltimore, which owns 7.5 million Dell Computer Corp. shares.

The company's stock has fallen 20 percent since Thursday amid concern that its sales of personal computers are slowing. Fourth-quarter results, released Tuesday, marked the first time in nine quarters that Dell's revenue rose less than 50 percent. ''The expectations got too high. What's happened is we've reset to about where we were at the beginning of the year. From here, we probably will see performance about in line with where earnings go. That's still pretty good. ''It will still continue to grow. The market is highly efficient in pricing any new information out of Dell. The market has ''Compaq is doing a better job. It's not as easy to kick their butt as it used to be.''
reacted exactly to doing that.''

Rapuano said the lower-than-expected revenue came from increased competition from rivals such as Compaq Computer Corp., which has begun using Dell's strategy of selling directly to consumers. Dell also found it harder to land corporate sales in the quarter, which affected revenue, she said.
