I think you are absolutely correct about the mandate of the minority. It is unhealthy for us, as a society, to concentrate and celebrate our differences when we spend so little time inculcating our commonalities into our children and our adults. It is what we have in common that will keep us together as a nation- and I think you are 100% correct that special laws and special treatment increase tension as opposed to reducing it- it may drive the tension underground but it is still there.

However, I do not think taking this position supports the horrible people who beat people up because they are gay. One of the common virtues we can support in our society is love of our neighbors, and tolerance. Those values needn't be aimed at one particular segment of society to be effective. There - no more PMS- see what a kinder gentler person I am?

I have excellent reading comprehension skills, Karma. When I said that you seem to think that vast amounts of cruelty are perfectly acceptable, it was because in a series of posts you seemed intent on voicing an opinion that homosexuals were dysfunctional as a group, and that they did not deserve the same human and civil rights that heterosexuals do. You did this particularly by indicating that the programs in schools which have as their goal teaching tolerance and understanding to children are wrong. The result of thinking like yours is continued hatred and violence towards homosexuals in this society. I think hate crimes against homosexuals are extremely cruel, and so it is natural that I would conclude from that that you seem to think that vast amounts of cruelty are perfectly acceptable.
