Having read the Polaroid PR, it is obviously a direct competitor to the Identicator DFS-200 product (the Compaq model). It is optical, CMOS, and minutiae-based. It is apparently also friendly to digital certificates. However, that is all we know. Polaroid did not provide pricing (other than to say it is low-priced) or other technical details. Having a competitor like this is not good news, but I am not about to panic. A comment on Yahoo this morning that Polaroid has "leapfrogged" IDX is clearly wrong.
