Hi lws, the 170 Whrs/kg no. originally came from a calculation of the Hanil specs. Notice that today's press release projects a 60% increase over present levels. We're in the ball park with these projections, have been since Oct. Remember when I suggested to you that based on those calculations, it seemed certain that Valence would enter the market with new and improved materials? This assumption was correct, but timing was not right. Originally, I was looking for immediate entry of 3rd generation, now looks but a few months off, roughly paralleling Hanil's production versions projected for late summer '99.

170 is around 150% > the current (so I am told) typical output of the li-ion cells currently being sold at 115 wt hr/kg.

My understanding is that the li-polymer cells have a 20-25% weight advantage over the li-ion cells, and that Valence is now sending to OEMs cells with a 120 wthr/kg capacity (effecitvely 150 wthr/kg vis a vis comparable li-ion cells.

So if you are a li-ion producer without the capability to move quickly into li-polymer, you have a tremendous incentive to license the Valence cathodes and remain competitive up to the 170-1809 wthr/kg level.
