Sarmad--there is a massive short position under this market (which has been true for a long time, although it continues to baloon). All the stars are in alignment to blow the lid of this thing. Stocks move about 5 times the move in the metal. A ten percent move in gold = a 40 to 50 percent move in NEM. Specs are short something like 3,000 tons and I think this number is a lowball estimate, mines have closed, costs are down and the producers and others are short as well. The total short position is hard to pin down -- but something like 8,000 to 14,000 tons. Japan is a buyer, and worldwide demand is up. Monetization of Japan's messy financial situation, and shaky currency situations which will emerge with a newly weakened yen are the match that will light the fuse. Big US hedge funds have asked Greenspan to keep the lid n gold prices -- but that was October and now all bets are off. It is time for gold to make its move up. IMO. I wanted in before tomorrows CPI, just in case.

I know nothing about gold, other than my wife likes to wear it.
Are you not worried about all the central banks selling their reserves ?

You can tell from the above that I really know nothing except what I read in the media.

Sarmed,

The World Gold Association or whatever they are called confirmed on Wednesday that demand for gold is higher than ever since records have been kep. Central banks are selling as you say which has kep gold at a equilibrium. The demand will soon exceed supply and the metal will go up. I plan on buying calls on the HUI tomorrow and I bought extra gold for my business with these expectations.
