Freeus,
In order to protect myself from margin call disasters I have two accounts with my broker (actually several if you count custodian). I keep some unmargined stock in one account (in my case Dell) and the rest of the positions in the other account. I only use any margin in the main account. If, heaven forbid, I get into trouble in the main account I can transfer shares from the other account. It's kind of like an insurance policy since I can sometimes be busy for several days and not check the accounts. This way if a margin call happens I can take care of it quickly.
