Who can really accurately predict the earnings for FY1999? I can see a decent shot at coming up with some numbers for Q1 as Vivus already has stated that even with milestones it will be challenging to turn a profit. Q3 and Q4 can be gangbusters if along with strong European sales Vivus has a partner detailing MUSE to the PCPs. My source has told me that the probability of Vivus not having a partner marketing MUSE in the US by the begining of July is Zero and that it is very possible to hear an announcement concerning this issue any day. I am not holding my breath for the any day part but I do believe we will have a partner no later than the end of Q2 1999. Q1 will be a "keep expenses down to the bone" quarter and Q2 I feel will be a pivital quarter concerning our future.

DAVID, If you subscribe to First Call, can you tell us who currently is actively covering Vivus and what their Q1 1999 and FY 1999 estimates are? Thanks. My latest info claims that it is being actively covered by the following: Paine Webber-Buy Cruttendon Roth-Hold Genesis Merchant-Hold Dain Rauscher Wessels-Hold (Suspended coverage February 9) CS First Boston-Hold (Suspended coverage and market making after being hired by Vivus as an investment banker in August 1998-will resume active coverage when Vivus finds a domestic partner)
