If Microsoft is broken up into three pieces it would be fair to allow any piece to get that name. Therefore I propose Millisoft, Nanosoft and Picosoft.

MSFT, including the legal team, has done a horrible job defending itself & the major reason is ARROGANCE: thinking they're so smart & can't do any wrong. I can't believe MSFT thinks everyone IN THE WORLD is so STUPID that they try to argue that IE can't be removed from the OS (pleez!), that they think they can pull phoney videotape demos past everyone (double pleez!!), that they get caught not knowing when an icon will be created on the screen (aaagghh!) and that they let their attitude problems permiate the trial. The world is SMART (believe it or not you haven't hired ALL the smart people), especially everyone interested in this trial. MSFT, stop playing GAMES and build a real TIGHT, CREADIBLE, PROFESSIONAL case!!

PS - I'm long on MSFT. The system will "fail" & let them off.

t2k and All:

Many of you are looking for a black or white resolution to this trial. I don't think you will see that happen here. Take note:

"Besides addressing Microsoft workers, Cohen was meeting privately with company chairman Bill Gates and other top executives. While in the Seattle area he also was visiting Boeing Co. to see the production line for the Air Force's new F-22 stealth fighter and get briefings on other Boeing defense projects....The days are gone, he said, when the Pentagon could tend to its own gardens of technological growth and ignore innovation in the private sector."

And finally:

"Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates, introducing Cohen, said he welcomed a chance to ''thank what is our biggest customer in the world.'' The Defense Department buys $300 million a year in computer products from Microsoft."

The more I watch this case progress, the more I believe the Gov't and MSFT will settle this case WITHOUT SEVERE PENALTIES. If you believe that MSFT's management is going to let this legal blunder they call a "Defense Team" interrupt there plans for the future, then I have a bridge to sell you. It is certainly obvious that the Govt will win this trial, but on the other hand, the Govt really will win nothing until all the Appeals are finished with, some great distance down the road from now. Both sides have incentive to settle, and they will.

To believe that this is the end of MSFT as we know it is CORRECT...how about that ToyBoy!! But you are underestimating MSFT's ability to leverage its resources and leadership to become an even more powerful entity in the future. For that reason, MSFT is a "Gotta Have" investment for any long term investor's portfolio.

To think otherwise is flat out silly.

To most of you out there that are trying to figure out which way to spend your $$, I suggest you first determine whether you want to INVEST vs. TRADE. For the traders, I suggest you follow ToyBoy and the many others that smother this thread, and go give it your best shot. I wish you luck. For the long term investor, step back, take a deep breath, and think about this company for a minute. If you have any doubts, go take a tour of any US Govt office and do inventory on all the MSFT software you see being used. The choices will suddenly become much clearer. To think the US Govt would send the economy, its own systems, and the systems of many of our country's most powerful corporations into potential uncertainty is just ignorance at its best.

Thanks,
Teflon

p.s., I fully admit to buying MSFT call options once or twice a year as a supplement to my investing behavior.
