Fred,

The digital camera is on the shelves. Unfortuantely, it too is a low-margin business dominated by high-efficiency Asian manufacturers.

FWIW, the current camera has been well reviewed, but it's one of dozens available, in a fast changing and highly competitive business, so that doesn't necessarily mean much. I doubt the development costs were anywhere close to $100 million. I don't know for sure, but most likely the camera was largely outsourced, with HP doing the design and setting peroformance parameters. That's typical of the business.

Unfortunately, digital imaging remains one of the "next waves" which seems to be perpetually on the horizon.

There's been a lot of talk about digital imaging, and I know we're looking for it as one of many growth engines for the future, but unfortunately, it remains one of the "next waves" which seems to be perpetually on the horizon. Still the stuff for hobbyists and enthusiasts, not the mainstream.

My own interpretation is that we're still looking for the next "big ticket" product line.

Work here. Would buy stock in my own division if I could. Don't own any HWP...
