>I don't even know how T handled LU.

LU was spun-off to existing shareholders of T. As a result of the spin-off, T shareholders had to reallocated their cost basis of T between T and LU. Shareholders were sent instructions (with examples) so they could easily do this.

El: I just watched Lou Dobbs interviewing Michael Holland of Holland Inc. and Joseph McAldelin of Morgan Stanley - both very senior analysts.

Holland said the correction is over. He said major techs have been tested. We will end the year on new highs. This volatility we are seeing is the norm - we have not had the norm for a number of years.

McAldelin said that we had begun a rebound which will be very strong and carry us to a peak in mid-Spring. The techs will be back very strong with the financials. He also tipped energy as the moon shot investment for people with a 5 year horizon. He thought that in mid-Spring there would be a falling off and the year would produce a net 10% gain but during the year we will pass 10,000 on the DOW. They were very relaxed and very confident that there is not nasty correction coming soon. There arguments were fundamental and in the context of the economy and fiscal poliocy. No reference to TA.

Earlier there was a snippet from Gabrielli saying that there is sector rotation.

>> nor do I think that Pepsi sharehlders got any YUM

WRONG !!!!

PEP holders did get YUM shares, T holders did get LU shares...

just like a few years ago S holders did get DWD and ALL shares...

One thing here is that Altavista is so tiny compared to CPQ, that let's say they gave you 1 share for every 100 CPQ....it's really hardly even worth the effort...

Jimbo.

Elwood. Re: "nor do I think that Pepsi sharehlders got any YUM." Not so. Pepsi shareholders received YUM shares when YUM was spun off. Naturally, I sold the YUM shares and kept the Pepsi shares. YUM has doubled and Pepsi is the same. Don't remind me.

El or Barber,
Don't know if this is still a concern, but I believe T shareholders received 32 shares of LU for every 100 shares of T stock, and as Lynn earlier stated, the basis for the T shares then had to be adjusted. Also, each T shareholder recieved 8 sh of NCR for every 100 sh of T.

FWIW
