Nickel, zinc up on stock fall
LONDON, Feb. 19 -- Nickel and zinc prices were higher in London Metal Exchange trading Friday after exchange stocks of both metals
were reported lower and amid reports of merchant and producer buying. Three-month nickel was up more than $130 per metric tonne to
more than $4,800 per tonne in early LME ring trading, while zinc prices of $1,065 per tonne were up $6 per tonne. LME nickel stocks were
reported down 1,116 tonnes to 63,816 tonnes earlier Friday, and zinc stocks were down 400 tonnes to 309,775 tonnes. Market watchers
said Russia's RAO Norilsk Nickel was said to be buying nickel and options in large volumes and that a large merchant was said to be behind a
squeeze developing in zinc.
