FIRST LARGE FC NT OEM! Is the SAN time finally here that we've been waiting for YEARS!!!

Got confirmation today obviously of Dell's use of FC switch! We heard about this in that article (posted here or in the Ancor thread?) awhile ago, but today's confirmation shows the FIRST LARGE CO. to announce with PR an NT FC switch, which is Brocade's. A big loss for Ancor, and that stinks to all Chaluba, but perhaps it will apply pressure on the other large OEMs to go with switches. DELL'S ENDORSEMENT OF SANS HELPS A BIG DEAL TO GET THIS GREAT NEW INDUSTRY SOME MUCH NEEDED PUBLICITY--

''The market for storage area networks will grow considerably in the next three years and Dell is well positioned to provide a leading solution for customers requiring the benefits that SANs deliver,'' said John McArthur, program director, Storage Systems Research at IDC. ''Dell's SAN strategy, products offered, and selection of leading partners demonstrate a strong commitment to its storage business, which will translate into real benefits for a broad range of customers.''

I really liked Dell's endorsement of the FC Switch architecture OVER that of a hub. Is it possible that when SANs take off over the next few years, the hub business will flatline earlier than most expected as the switch biz is already competitive this early in the evolution? THESE SWITCH COMMENTS FROM THE DELL PR --

<< The new product provides customers up to eight times the
performance of most fibre channel hub products sold for SANs today
. Switches are used in storage area networks to direct data between a computer server and the storage subsystems. >>

Also, seems like the moot in Virtual Zoning is no longer moot? ;-(

p.s. Did you see 'Rushmore' yet? ;-) An interesting film, and not sure if you'd like it. It had a few Harold and Maude/The Graduate influences.
