When I first read it, I thought your Astra-Zeneca merger theory was a plausible explanation for the delay of any partner announcement. But then this statement from LW makes me wonder:

Leland Wilson: I really do not want to comment on the negotiations as we have them right now. As you can appreciate, when you're talking with more than one company, I think it's important to keep any issues that you have with one confidential with others. So we're not going to comment on those now - any facts about these negotiations at this point.

The implication here being they are choosing between competing offers, which would tend to undermine the theory that they have already reached an understanding with Astra which cannot be announced until after merger completion.
