The Microsoft Panic Play Based on the premise that the market hates uncertainty, as well as the perception that Microsoft is botching its defense against the doj, I sense something of a panic among Microsoft shareholders - particularly the big institutional ones. The big question here is no longer whether Microsoft will lose, but how badly. That's where the uncertainty lies. What remedy will doj seek? It could be minor, but then again it could be cataclysmic. No one has a clue. To hedge their bets, people may look to lock in some of their big Msft profits and move some of that dough to companies that have in the past been in Microsoft's cross-hairs....the likely beneficiaries of a doj-powered Microsoft Meltdown. I think Ifmx is one of those cross-hair companies. To me it's clear...if Microsoft is broken up and the apps division is spun off from the OS, SQL Server is done. Put a fork in it. This pos product sells now is because (a) it's given away ala Japanese dumping practices of the past, (b) IS decision makers have a warm and fuzzy that Microsoft and its os dominance will be there forever, with an unlimited spigot of cash and access to undocumented OS goodies to grow sql server into a semblance of a product sometime in the future. Without this, sql server disappears from short lists everywhere, making room for others like Ifmx. But as with most things pertaining to stocks, the reaction is subject to extremes. Fear and Greed. So what you do is take advantage of it. Wait until the week before Msft judgement day. By then, the panic should be near its peak. That's when, if you believe as I do, that the ultimate judgement will not be as bad as what the panicked stampeding herd thinks, you sell your hedge bets and get back into Microsoft. Sorry....the evil empire has simply grown too strong, and I must admit to being seduced by the dark side. May the Force be with us.
