CMG on overdrive to popularize CORBA education in India

In order to promote component-based development in the country, the Component Management Group (CMG) has set up a number of component academies in the country. To begin with, CMG has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore (IIIT-B) to set up an academy within the campus which will conduct masters programs in the areas of Object Computing and Distributed Computing Management.

The first component academy has been set up in Chennai, in association with Kaashyap Radiant Systems, a subsidiary of the US-based Radiant, which is a consultancy, software development and training company and also undertakes SAP & Oracle Financials implementations.

The second component academy is expected to be inaugurated in New Delhi, in association with Network Programs India, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Network Programs of US. It is understood that CMG is in the process of finalizing business partners in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune for similar component academies in these cities. These centres are expected to be operational in about a month's time.

According to Sunil Dutt Jha, President and Chief Executive Officer of CMG, the company plans to set up a component academy in each of the state capitals in the country. This, according to Jha, will help propagate the use of component-based development in the country. "India has a great talent for software development, but is somehow not abreast with the latest technologies in some areas. Component-based technologies like CORBA allow easier development of software and reduce the time taken for development too," said Jha.

It may be recalled that CMG, some time ago, had set up a consortium of Indian companies in association with the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) to address the overseas component-based development market. To start with, the consortium is expected to target the SAARC region, and later tap the Asia- Pacific market. This is a part of CMG's global initiatives to promote component- based development on the CORBA platform. It is understood that the company is looking at forming similar consortia all over the world.
