John,

In the universe of software, both application and system, I am sure no one has migrated IBM proprietary software except IBM. However, billions and billions and billions of characters of customer's code have beamed off starship IBM for Unix based servers and lately NT based servers. IBM has "small" systems today that would outrun a big 370 class mainframe. Look at what an AS400 or RS6000 is capable of today.. Awesome!

The point is that IBM is a par excellence MARKETING company. A bit sloggy because of its size and culture, but none the less great.

RW

PS. I saw my first compile of a 370 COBOL program on a Intel 8086 PC circa 1980.
