SPEEDCOM Wireless International Signs Letter of Intent With Chinese Wireless Provider
SARASOTA, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 19, 1999--Wave Wireless Networking, division of SPEEDCOM International, announced that it has signed a letter of intent to do business in China with a major provider of wireless networks.

The multi-year joint venture agreement will total over 20 million dollars. Newly funded projects include providing wireless Internet service for a city in northern China and a private network for the one of the largest banks in the country.

Wave Wireless Networking products provide ISPs with strategic solutions for gaining rapid growth and market share in their respective markets. Wave's telecommunications equipment provides ''last mile'' connectivity between the Internet Service Provider or the Local Exchange Company (LEC) and their business customers. Michael McKinney, CEO of SPEEDCOM International said, ''This first joint venture agreement in China affirms our commitment to serve the Chinese market. We are very excited to reach this agreement and we expect that this opportunity represents the tip of the iceberg in China and throughout Asia.''

Wave Wireless' non-exclusive, joint venture partner will assist in marketing and distributing Wave products throughout China. The relationship will enable Wave to address larger segments of the telecommunications market in China.

With Internet growth rates in China leading the world, the telecommunication needs here are extensive. Existing infrastructure available in China and many parts of the world is not able to provide the bandwidth to facilitate these high growth rates. Wave's wireless products are quickly installed and provided faster speeds than many international telephone companies can provide.

Wave's SPEEDLAN products perform at speeds up to 10 Mbps and can be used to build wireless metropolitan area networks for Internet communications. SPEEDLAN may be combined with other Wave products for wireless ''last mile'' connectivity, high performance backbones and any multi-location application.
