Good point about Barrick. That's why I included PDG in my question.
If itisjust one company then one looks at some situation/strategy
uniquetothatcompany. However, when you see more than one major
company in the same business following the same strategy it raises
a different set of questions. Unfortunately, I haven't been following
any other major gold companies to see if the trend is broader.
Both these companies are taking on a lot of debt. At the moment
interest rates are very low. Japanese interest rates have moved
from one percent to four percent. Can interest rates in NA be
far beind? A one percent move on a large debt load has a significant
impact. If, howeer, it creates a corresponding move in the price
of gold, then it works in our favour. Given that I'm long on
gold I hope so.
