<but I feel they should allow some living room for AMD. CPQ and others will support AMD, that is clear now, so Intel is just wasting money.>

Heh, if AMD were merely satisfied with the low-end, you might have a case for Intel just leaving AMD alone. But AMD comes with their high-n-mighty statements about taking marketshare in the low-end, and using that as a foothold to move further into Intel's domain in the business and high-end sectors like servers and workstations. They brag to the world that they came first to the market with 3DNow, and they brag that their K7, their so-called "seventh generation technology," will beat Intel's Willamette by over a year. With their copper 0.18 micron process coming on-line later, they have already made their GHz-by-2000 proclamation. And wasn't it AMD who originally offered their promise of 25% lower prices vs. Intel?

So now Intel throws a very strong counterpunch with the Celeron price cuts and accelerated speed ramp-ups. And this is a monopolistic act? Or maybe AMD was asking for it, like a boxer who constantly taunts his opponent, only to be kissing canvas a few rounds later.
