Jim,

All the news seems to point to some Korean deal but as always everything right now is rumour and speculation. Should such a deal really exist, does anyone care to guess when the appropriate time would be to announce it? Is there some upcoming event that would be the perfect time for such an announcement?

I think you are right. It is not normal to have AAPL iCEO, CFO, and VP for world-wide sales all in one place overseas and at the same time. I think something is in the works right now but as OrionX mentioned in his post, everything right now is rumor and speculation. Let us hope for some sort of a good deal.
