Influential Analyst Predicts Some Internet Stocks Will Hit New
Highs
February 19, 1999

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Shares of some prominent Internet-based auctioneers, merchants
and entertainment firms rebounded Friday from a four-day decline after CIBC Oppenheimer Corp.
analyst Henry Blodget predicted select Internet stocks will hit new highs this year.

The stocks of many Internet concerns soared into the stratosphere in recent months on the
premise that strong revenue growth will eventually produce strong profits. In recent days, shares
of several firms fell on concerns about unrealistic valuations and longstanding concerns that the
Internet will drastically shrink profit margins. Blodget himself helped fan fears about razor-thin or
nonexistent profit margins.

Blodget recommended investors acquire Internet stocks - especially America Online Inc. (AOL),
Yahoo! Inc. (YHOO) and Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN) - on the belief that the sector will set new
highs in the second half. That was enough to trigger short covering and nudge investors and day
traders to begin buying, according to market sources.
