Actually, I was going to suggest to Burt that in view of Dell's recent revenue shortfall, perhaps he should check with some of the *other* manufacturers for a fully accurate read on the situation!!

Just as you I don't know why they were swamped with calls, but it's probably a safe bet that they weren't swamped with calls from people who DIDN'T want to buy a PIII-based PC. They don't have price sheets yet so they can't really sell anything PIII based.

I don't think the PCID will be a big deal (in the real world) initially (either plus or minus) since nobody will initially be configured to use it. Frankly, I was hoping for exactly what you were hinting at - a fire sale with PCID-enabled chips. My guess is that I will have no such luck.
