t2k, these other suits are a legitimate risk.

But the market will discount them quickly, as the playing field will be different. Keep in mind:

1) MSFT's legal team will be ready for anything after this DOJ trial. Consider it a brutal scrimmage.
2) MSFT's lawyers will not face Boies in a civil suit with competitors, and that's a bonus (he's excellent and underrated)
3) These suits being filed assumes MSFT loses this trial in a worst case fashion, which I don't believe will happen (see yesterday's posts).

Being cautious and a little nervous is good for investors, it forces us to constantly reevaluate the "why" in why we invest in the companies we do.

Thanks,
Teflon

>>What made me cautious was the possibility of private lawsuits if a ruling against MSFT occurs---I would like for someone to tell me what type of organizations would initiate these; consumers? competitors?<<

I do not have any problem with any bozoes or parasites seeking to get something for nothing
by claiming antitrust or whatever other cockymammie nonsense they want for long as Microsoft in retaliation seeks recovery of legal cost, compensatory and punitive damage awards to be collected from all all who loose their cases against Microsoft.. Also Microsoft should insist on a lean against assets of those loosing litigants.
I do not want Microsoft to be nice, I want them to step and squash all those cock roaches that get in their way.
