Gulf of Mexico rig count increases


HOUSTON: The U.S. Gulf of Mexico rig count increased by one, according to Offshore Data Services' weekly mobile offshore rig count. The increase is the second recorded in as many weeks.

In the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, 127 of the 180 mobile offshore drilling units are under contract. U.S. Gulf rig utilization is 70.6 percent.

In Europe, 93 of the region's 105 drilling rigs are under contract. European offshore rig utilization is 88.6 percent.

The one-rig increase in the U.S. Gulf rig count is reflected in the worldwide offshore rig count. Today, 490 of the world's supply of 614 drilling units are under contract; worldwide offshore rig utilization is 79.8 percent.
