AT&T On Verge Of Becoming Most Powerful Internet Player (T) - Rpt
Newstraders - February 18, 1999 10:58
(NewsTraders.com)-- With shareholders and regulators signing off on ATT Corp.'s (T) acquisition of cable giant Tele-Communications Inc. (TCOMA) yesterday, the telecommunications behemoth is on the verge of potentially becoming the most powerful Internet player within the next 24 to 36 months, according to Internet.com's senior investment analyst Steve Harmon.

Highlights:

- In addition to receiving TCI's vast cable assets, ATT will also absorb TCI's sizeable stake in high-speed Internet service provider AtHome (ATHM) when the acquisition is finally completed.

- ATT will also benefit from AtHome's recent deal to acquire search engine Excite (XCIT).

- When all is said and done, ATT potentially can offer consumers one-stop shopping for local and long distance phone service, Internet access, and cable and wireless services.
