Michelle, BTW I don't think country stores or kiosks etc. are really necessary. To me, it just dilutes focus away from the web sales.

It makes a lot of sense if you are a first time buyer and need to touch and feel the product.

Michelle,

I agree that it takes away from focus on the net but novice consumers can get the retail experience they want. You are an experienced technologist and do not need this mediate process. Also some experienced people like to go to a store and look at what they are going to buy.

The kiosk idea has merit. The problem is there has to a knowledgeable person in the store to help the customer. Usually there is not one available when needed. I suspect the kiosk idea flops more than succeeds.

The Country Store concept makes sure there is a GTW salesperson available at BTO point of entry with sample merchandise. GTW does not have to worry about " bait and switch" or competing against the other PC companies with promotional bonuses and kick backs.

The country stores cost about 600K a piece.

Micheele,

If it were to dilute focus from e-sales then I would agree with you.
But I think it is actually complementary. Small showroom stores with no inventory just satisfy the touch and feel needs of novice concrete thinkers. The actual BTO and ordering processes are the same.
Whether the incremental business generated is worth the investment, I can not say. I do not have the numbers.

No question that e-sales will be the dominant sales mechanism within 10 years!

Jim Kelley
