I was actually thinking of a realnetworks kind of application for TV (O/S in a TV does seem strange). I do agree that my background has biased me against mass market devices - perhaps I do not understand mass market devices at all.

somehwat offtopic.
GMST(F) is doing exactly that! They are getting into most all TV's in the US as the "OS" of sorts, has its technology licensed to msft,sne, rca, philips etc.(for instance get a nice royalty for every webtv unit that gets sold etc.) I have been in that stock for almost 2 years now and have had 400% returns over that period. Check and do your DD if you like...
