Hi Greg, I really can't comment on that from the standpoint of experience (perhaps others here can), but what you've stated can be supported through inference. TCI is among the largest, and they got that way through acquisitions. Sometimes, often, they simply needed to add to their POP count by adding on older systems.

Some of these go back to the Fifties, in fact, and some of them have been overlooked from time to time where upgrades were concerned, as well. It would stand to reason, then, that you could be right.

On the other hand, systems that were only put in during the Nineties have leapfrogged the black coax which still characterizes many of TCI's properties' distribution trees in the brush, and these upstarts came ready-equipped with HFC network elements from the outset.
