Costa Rica is a great little country, except the roads are horrible, but the Pacific Coast beaches are great...

Their president has libertarian ideas, and they do not have an Army, they spend that money in education.

I have been there a couple of times, and I have enjoyed myself a lot.

People are extremely friendly, and are quite conscious of their environment... except... traffic in San Jose is terrible....

Anyway, your friend may be a good tour guide. I am sure you will have a great time.... and learn some Costa Rican dialect never even heard before..... <g>
