TORONTO -(Dow Jones)- ATI Technologies Inc. is expected to release an
Accelerated Graphics Port 4X graphics chip next week, likely Monday,
industry sources confirmed with Dow Jones Newswires. ATI (ATYTF) is a maker of chips for computer graphics. Earlier this month, competitor S3 Inc. (SIII) of Santa Clara, Calif., was the first in the industry to release an Accelerated Graphics Port, or AGP, 4X chip, with its Savage4. The ATI chip expected to be announced Monday is the enhanced version of the company's ATI Rage 128 released last August, which was AGP 2X. A higher AGP designation improves the graphics processing abilities inside computers.
