They are still bullish? I think most of them still think the stock price will recover pretty soon so they sell calls instead of stocks. But in case the price keeps going down, they will be in deep trouble. I agree the market decline will affect consumer spending. I remembered I read on SI last Aug. to early Oct. that the shopping malls in NJ were deserted because of stock market crash.
