Thank you Richard -- since central banks are key players, I have also wondered how their transactions are 'priced'. We know the impact of a big 'sale' or the announcement of one, and its propaganda value. How about the announcement of a large purchase? What about the propaganda value of that? A lot of this is just messing with people's minds. Imagine the difference in the impact of these two statements:

1. Central bank sells a big bunch of gold (no mention of the central bank on the other side of the trade).

Versus

2. Central bank buys big pile of gold (say Japan) -- no mention of who the seller is.
