I understand your point about holding 'nets beyond a day trade. I held LCOS over the USAI announcement. Not a pretty result.

But I've never believed that the potential outcome from a short position is somehow different from a long. Yes, the stock price could go to infinity, but stock prices don't in practice go to infinity. So in the BCST example, I think the longs have an equal chance of getting hurt as the shorts on Monday morning.

But I do agree with your basic premise - it is a speculative position, short or long.

Amen! I bought YHOO the last tick on Friday before the split (Monday AM). It just happened to coincide with the bottom dropping out of the internets Mon and Tue. I was in a hurt before the market even opened. So much for the gap up! That's one long weekend I won't soon forget.
(No pun intended!)
