Please show me any kind of valid research that proves that averaging down benefits investors. Usually, it only magnifies an investor's losses. Based on what I've seen with a number of stocks, if a stock declines in a price, it's going to stay at a low price for a long time, and may never recover.

Ooops, sorry -- I almost forgot we were talking about the wonder stock DGIV, and it's going to rocket back up again!
