Andy,

There is an interesting article in the Monday issue of Investor's Business Daily, where they talk about about the video-game makers. Also there was a couple of charts on video game publishers based on their 1998 sales. The top 10 were:
1. Nintendo
2. Sony
3. Electronics Arts
4. INteract Accessories
5. Acclaim
6. Midway
7. 989Studios/Sony
8. THQ!
9. Capcom
10 Namco
others: Eidos was #13, and Hasbro Interactive was #15

Another chart listed the top selling games for 1998, based on units sold. Here are just the top 10:
1. GoldenEye 007 - Nintendo64-Nintendo - $49
2. Zelda- Nintendo64-Nintendo - $59
3. Gran Turismo-PlayStation-Sony - Sony
4. Banjo-Kazooie-Nintendo64-Nintendo - $50
5. Super Mario 64-Nintendo64-Nintendo - $41
6. Resident Evil 2-PlayStation-Capcom - $50
7. WCW/NWO Revenge-Nintendo64-THQ - $60
8. WWF:WarZone-PalyStation-Acclaim - $42
9. Crash Bandicoot 2-PlayStation-Sony - $25
10 Madden NFL 99-PlayStation-Electronic Arts - $41

Interesting that even though the above list is based on number of units sold, THQ's game had the highest price per game!!

In the article that that accompanied the charts it talks about how the "New Console" cycle effects the video game makers, and how that if they don't change that they can get left in the dust (Acclaim).

THQ and Brian Farrell are mentioned several times in the article. Hey, at least IBD knows who THQ is. I'm just waiting to see them on the "New America" page. Just waiting for earnings next week.

Nick

Andy, I would think a better buyer would be Mattel, who could use Brian's expertise to head up their whole video gaming division including THQ.
