Adherent's Stream Station II - "Two for the
Price of One" at NAB99

Cambridge, England. After winning three industry awards at last year's NAB
exhibition for their range of monitoring and test equipment Adherent Systems will
be returning to demonstrate their new AD953-II Stream Station II real time and
offline analysis tool.

The Stream Station II MPEG-2/DVB/ATSC real time and offline analysis tool is
the successor of the award winning Stream Station. As well as adding significant
functionality to the original system Stream Station II now supports both the ATSC
and DVB formats, quite literally "two for the price of one"! New features designed
to help equipment developers, system integrators and broadcasters include:

Playout and recording of transport streams at up to 90 Mbits / sec
A software multiplexer for the generation of test streams under full user
control
Full real time monitoring of incoming streams (according to the ATSC A/53
and A/65 (PSIP) standards), including Huffman decoding of ATSC service
information
Picture display and in depth video analysis
Simultaneous playout and record
Seamless looped playout of transport streams
Greatly enhanced analysis speed on Pentium IIä platform

Adherent will be demonstrating their range of products on the stand of Adherent's
US distributor, Sencore in the Las Vegas Convention Center stand L12609. NAB
runs from 19th to 22nd April in Las Vegas.

Notes to Editors

Data sheets and colour pictures of Stream Station II are available on request.

DIVI was going to use Adherent's tools in their systems.....

Adherent Announces Real Time
Monitoring OEM deal with DiviCom at
IBC 98

Cambridge, England. Adherent Systems today announced the signing of
a major new OEM deal to supply the US encoder manufacturer DiviCom
with real time digital video monitoring technology.

The deal signed at IBC will enable the functionality of Adherent's award
winning SV970 Stream View multi stream real time monitor to be
integrated with the DiviCom THESYSTM network management system.
THESYS provides complete digital video facility management in
conjunction with DiviCom MPEG-2 compression systems.

Commenting on the agreement, Ian Valentine Adherent's MD said " The
strategic partnership with DiviCom will greatly compliment our global sales
channel and provide a complete system solution for broadcasters. The
combination of DiviCom's compression technology and Adherent's proven
measurement capability provides broadcasters with optimum bandwidth
utilisation and picture decodability." He continued "This is an industry first,
we believe it's an important partnership for Adherent."

With the rollout of digital satellite, cable and terrestrial tv throughout Europe
and the rest of the world the ability to check transmissions for decodability
by the subscriber is critically important to broadcasters. The better use of
bandwidth enabled by digital TV and the implied massive growth in the
number of channels and associated consumer choice will mean that
automated monitoring for quality assurance will become mandatory. The
technology supplied to DiviCom by Adherent will facilitate this automation.

A one-way IP multicast based resource transfer protocol, the Unidirectional Hypertext Transfer Protocol (UHTTP) is defined in Appendix A. UHTTP is a simple, robust, one-way resource transfer protocol that is designed to efficiently deliver resource data in a one-way broadcast-only environment. This resource transfer protocol is appropriate for IP multicast over television vertical blanking interval (IPVBI), in IP multicast carried in MPEG-2, or in other unidirectional transport systems.

Thomson is a state-owned consumer electronics developer controlled by the government of France. That country announced that it would sell 30 percent of the company to Microsoft, Alcatel, NEC and DirecTV as new partners in order to "strengthen (Thomson's) industrial and commercial strategy and assure its position as a business leader in several areas of the information technology market." The recapitalization of Thomson was approved in September 1997.

For its part, Microsoft said that it will work to design and market enhanced televisions including an electronic guide program and applications for interactive television programs. According to some reports, Microsoft said that it will develop "html-rendering" technologies based on the Windows CE operating system for use in the machines. The final product will include an integrated TV receiver, in both digital and analog versions, providing levels of interactivity today available only through set-top boxes, Microsoft said.
