Wild Life-All about GIR.

To most people the word 'jungle' conjures up images of dense, lush green tropical forest that has huge trees festooned with creepers and infested with dangerous animals, snakes and insects. In its Sanskrit origin, the word means a wild country, untamed land or a wilderness.

It is very essential for tourists to understand this before they embark on a visit to Gir. Situated on the southwestern edge of the Saurashtra peninsula of Gujarat, this 1412 sq. km. of forest has an enchantingly different beauty in different seasons. It is scorching and seems dry and open in summer. Many people are at times disappointed as the area appears so very different from the forest of their imagination but with the advent of monsoon the land of Gir rejuvenates. It seems as if the flora is rejoicing the fusion of the two most divine elements of this universe, water and earth, and virtually fifty species sprout new shoots. Dry bushes transform into thick green walls, woody listless trees become full of life with shimmering new leaves and the usually open forest becomes unapproachable and impenetrable...........
